Lhasa with Chomokhangar Trekking - Day to Day itinerary
Arrive to Lhasa airport; meet your guide & Transfer to hotel
Today after breakfast we will head to the center of the city and visit Potala Palace, the 13-storeyed edifice was among the world’s tallest buildings prior to the advent of the 20th century skyscraper, and the grandest building in Tibet. In terms of global perception, it is this relic of Tibet’s past, present, and future national aspirations, more than any other, which uniquely symbolizes Tibet, like the Great Wall in China or the Vatican in Italy. After the visit we will go east to the Barkhor market, by the heart of the old town of Lhasa, visit Jokhang Temple, which is Tibet’s most sacred shrine, the focal point of pilgrims from the entire Tibetan plateau.
Morning we will visit Drepung Monastery, located 8 kilometers northwest of Lhasa. It was founded in 1416. In the early years of the 16th century, Dalai Lama II took possession of the Ganden Podrang at Drepung, which was later to become an important centre of political power in Tibet. At the time when Dalai Lama V assumed power in 1641, Drepung had over 10,000 monks. After lunch we head north of the city about 10 minutes to Sera Monastery, located at the base of Mt. Purbuchok, which forms part of the watershed between the kyi-chu and the penpo-chu Rivers, the Monastery is found in 1419.
